Freedom of speech is for everyone not just the people you agree with. https://reason.com/2025/04/18/marco-rubio-brags-about-defending-freedom-of-speech-while-eagerly-undermining-it/

getting rid of the GEC is a W, there shouldn't be government subsidized propaganda outlets and their track record showed they were more about control than freedom on deportation, yes it's selective but I don't think it qualifies on an attack on free speech non-citizens on visas or green cards are guests and beneficiaries of the US. If they're actively pushing anti-establishment views it's reasonable to question whether they should be here, nobody is telling them what to think just to not stir the pot while you're a guest that is not the same as silencing citizens who have full rights under the first amendment, and the constitution isn't a set of general moral ideas it's a legal framework, one that Rubio is well within the bounds of

Well I agree getting rid of GEC was great. I consider freedom of speech to be a natural right though. As far as the constitution being a legal framework I believe it has failed in that sense because both federal and state governments have just been completely ignoring many parts of it for a long time.

fyi, your take on free speech is not founded in the constitution or any constitutional principles. the most famous originalist and textualist, the late justice antonin scalia, has expressed multiple times that any person on american soil, regardless of his status, enjoys all the constitutional protections given to US citizens.

Except like in the case with tufts the person being deported even according to betar a very right wing pro Isreal group who's been doing a lot of the targeting, co wrote an op ed in a student newspaper calling for divestment in Israeli companies, not that anti establishment. I do agree visas can be negated, however doing so in cases where there's zero convictions let alone even charges is a massive over reach, constitution applies to everyone in America not just American citizens
