Cultural difference between US and China is still ~4x larger than cultural difference between generations (30y).

But I predict that as progress accelerates and the world becomes more interconnected, this will flip, which will have surprising consequences and implications.

devils advocate: we been saying that ab china forever, that interconnection will align worldviews. in the 2000s the influx chinese students at us colleges was touted as something like that, harvard had students who were children of senior chinese leaders.

I'm much more aligned with this take. Exposure to technology even at early ages isn't shaping your worldview to the extent that your parents and culture does, and interconnection doesn't immediately merge minds.

I would go one step further and say I don't think this should even be a talking point as far as goals of technology go. Cultural integration is a slow process for a reason, I think anything that tries to speed that up unnaturally whether technological or otherwise is going to do more harm than good.

for me ~ culture is where social connection begins, censorship shapes worldview, and technology doesn’t mean a thing when content is controlled. so china’s youth will by default have diff worldviews.  
- china’s internet and media is govt shaped 
- amplifies a pro govt message
- criminalizes anti govt ideas
- pvp culture w usa 
- prevents exposure of cultures to each other
- has social credit system

these 20 year olds have spent the last 20 years of their lives growing up on this. will take time to unlearn

so ultimately i think you and i agree w vitalik. the more i thought ab my response the more i thought his applied. same w yours. tech and culture and interconnection etc are all one layer of worldview. i think you and i are spiking in the idea that it wont be just one of these layers thatll align worldviews. wdyt
