are there any good ipfs explorer tools??(eg. put in a cid and see its content) have just been using explore.ipld.io so far

https://webui.ipfs.io/ is the best one, but unfortunately you need to run your own Kubo node to use it.
The ideal solution would be if the inbrowser gateway implementation had an explorer mode, but it's not being prioritized by the Shipyard team:
