@jessepollak
can anyone help me understand why it costs ~$200 to deploy a relatively simple contract on solana? I assumed it would cost comparable amounts to base (eg cents) and feel like my mental model needs updating what is the difference in architecture that drives this?

this would be completely brick what we're building (bracky spinning up prediction market contracts for any sports event)

@jessepollak Solana requires programs to pay rent to keep it active proportional to the data stored in those accounts. This just means the bigger your program is, the more expensive rent will be for your program to keep it active on the network. The good thing about it is the rent is refundable if the program account is closed

the program becomes part of the global state. It is priced highly because the ram requirements of all solana validators are downstream from this. But in case your miniapp does not work out you can reclaim most of the funds.

Because they optimise for the state transitions, not storage. They didn’t solve anything, they just introduced a few trade offs like storage costs

I don’t know much, but typically solana transactions are kind of (not L1 ETH level) expensive yes?

More reasons why developers will spike into Base once they see the simplicity and the togetherness in here.
