āflanderization is a trope involving exaggerating a single trait of a character to the point where it completely consumes the character.ā im starting to see this in social media too!! i feel like algorithms can end up dampening peopleās personalities or reducing people to one thing a tiktoker ends up doing their signature dance in every single video cos thats what will get them likes or an X account will rage bait about one topic as thatās what gets them engagement and $$$ many creators can end up becoming a caricature of themselves as they are mainly existing online to feed the algorithm kinda like ānichingā down to the point where the person is lost completely i have been SO guilty of this as i am a people pleaser who is trying to stop being a people pleaser haha now i am trying to post in a way which reflects more elements of my personality and interests not just the ones i assume people/ algo will find interesting so bare with me as i try to show up more as āmeā

This rings so deeply for me that Iām confusing it with the tinnitus I have. š I understand both sides. People compartmentalize to make it easier for them to absorb new info. Algorithms reward those who focus their feeds/subject matter for the purpose of attention. And the vicious cycle continues. This is why actors/actresses hate being type-cast because it only shows one part of their acting abilities. I donāt know the solve here, just saying I hear you - perhaps a lot of us do. š«

thankyou so much for taking the time to read!! šš¾ yes its true i dont know how algos work but it would be ideal if when i post about sports the people interested in that see it and when i post humour or whatever it goes to the people who will resonate so i dont have to stick to one thing in a way that feels inauthentic the actor comparison makes alot of sense! either way im gonna just try and post more of what i want rather than what the algo wants
