I personally lean towards him still dreaming, but I do like that he just doesn’t seem to care in the end because either way he’s there with his kids. Reminds me of this bit: Cobb: "You're waiting for a train. A train that will take you far away. You know where you hope the train will take you, but you can't know for sure. Yet it doesn't matter. Now, tell me why?" Mal: "Because we'll be together!"

yea, it seems like "still dreaming" aligns well with the general tone of the mind fuck of dreams within dreams plus i always thought he could get the grandfather to bring the kids to paris, seemed like an unnecessary need to have to go to the US 🙏
