we went to the New York Transit Museum today, which was great the most interesting info i learned was about the “Sandhogs” - the men who dug out the tunnels under the rivers around NYC in compressed air chambers, and occasionally died from the Bends a job i’d not want but greatly respect https://daily.jstor.org/the-sandhogs-who-built-the-new-york-subway/

Always respected those who contributed to our transport infrastructure. See also anytime I see a crew painting a big bridge and wearing the gear to keep them theoretically safe from exposure to some strong chemistry.
