I've seen a lot of renaissance sculpture and honestly the one on the right is more interesting to me at this point. Like, the pursuit of realism has a concrete end in any given medium. Absurdist abstraction is limitless.

The former displays mastery of skill and is inspiring + beautiful which should be what we optimize for Absurdist is inherently easier to create. It’s lowered the bar and helped mediocre talent get away with passing off neon-sharpie-feathers-macaroni-and-paste kindergartener level projects as pinnacle of art

I hear you but also what do you think of Picasso and his journey to the latter. Which, like many great contemporary artists (always rare) grinds painfully through the former.

Im of two minds, I think objectively the left image is "better art" but that doesn't invalidate the expression found the right. Fundamentally the whole space is filled with psyops and weird things like network effects dominating conversation. This clip from the French Dispatch did more for my understanding of the function of art than a crazy amount of conversations with people that went in circles.

So you think society as a whole should optimize for your tastes? Are you a fucking child? Do you really need the whole world to be your special little safe space full of just the kind of art you like, and for all artists to spend their lives making art that won't trigger you? What a fucking snowflake. Get out of here with your woke-ass demands that society conform to all your little autistic trigger warnings.
