with some vc-backed founders I feel like I'm talking to a carefully crafted narrative

often the 4th wall breaks when you tell them something and they say "oh that really resonates, I should start pitching this more like..." - like dude I'm trying to have a conversation with *you*, is there anyone actually there?

Yeah I hear you. So much emphasis on pitching and "focus" that to go through that gauntlet it may be that it's the "always selling" personality type they are selecting for more so than the process that changes people.  What do you think?
