New: Collectibles! 

Support your favorite creators by collecting their casts onchain. Each cast can be turned into a unique, 1-of-1 collectible. Just tap the new "collect" icon on a cast to get started. 

Casts can be collected starting at $1. If there are multiple collectors, it goes to the highest bidder. Creators get 90% collectible earnings, and the remaining 10% goes to the protocol rewards. 

We’re excited about collectibles for a few reasons: 
1. Creators earn directly from their audience
2. New creators can earn on their first day
3. Users get to collect a unique piece of Farcaster history

Collectibles will go live tomorrow morning around 9am PT. We're announcing this early so people can be ready to collect their favorite casts when the feature is live!

what does the token image look like if the cast has a mini app embed? is the mini app embed image shown in the token image? or just cast text?

I just quickly checked on it and am wondering why there’s still an auction contract, even though the documents stated that the action occurs off-chain.

collecting will be possible only by mobile but it doesn't matter if the cast was made on desktop, right?

the contract is very minimal, just cast hash and FID (which is what you need to conveniently query Snapchain). there is a metadata module that we can upgrade to put more of it onchain. looking at a few different options but not decided yet, some combination of pinning on Snapchain, IPFS, onchain events/storage.

if the experiment is successful we'll make the metadata more permanent:

maybe a renounce ownership so if renounced can't be modified longer, I can see metadata evolution as a feature for some ideas... maybe not for just -its the cast- but for art etc

that's the main reason I'd collect, to keep casts from expiring.

collectible casts are like digital artifacts from the future, each contract a little gateway to stories waiting to be told and shared. love seeing this kind of open source magic unfold in the Farcaster ecosystem
