I’ve posted this sentiment before but it came up again this past weekend when I was down at Duke for an event hosted by a now retired professor, and before that a business executive, who has amassed a great network of alumni of whom he gathers frequently. 

His advice for parenting and being an active father and now grandfather: don’t play golf 

The men didn’t love this when he said it. I broke out in a wild grin. 

Some man was like “is there anything else we can do? Fishing??” 

“I said what I said” 

Be present! Don’t be the dad (or mom) who spends their weekdays working and weekends hitting a ball down the green

Agreed. My dad worked long hours and traveled (IBanker) and so when he was around on the weekends he was (annoyingly) yelling at me from the sidelines of either a rec soccer or rec softball game before making dinner (he always was the better cook of my parents(

💯 I used to fish with my pops and on occasion play golf with my uncle. My uncle has no kids so lots of free time. I couldnt imagine my father spending his free time away from the fam for hours every weekend. For sure it's not a super bonding experience.

This is why you have to pwn your spawn in Counter-Strike, really brings the family together
