I think it’s both, both farcaster founders are ex-coinbase, the ecosystem is very ‘base’ heavy and then on top of that it’s not doing favours for general crypto rep, it’s just not a good look in general unfortunately

ex-coinbase doesn't mean pro-base or agreeing with what cb did there – quite the contrary, I quit CB in response to base, and this sponsorship thing removed any willingness for me to give them benefit of the doubt again.

i'm in agreement with ted here - crypto PR problem is one thing (defocus on fc being crypto really - just a much cooler place to be than on say x?), but until today never realised how people may view it being coinbase heavy (incl. base). btw, if too based (not that theres anything wrong with that), it may be harder to onboard say the solana folk, and so on (just visit primal to see where i'm coming from - 100% btc)

still optimistic some day we can get more scientists and creatives here if we lean into our decentralized values and uplift those communities, but recognize the very uphill battle and crypto PR problem we have to tackle.
