i'm in agreement with ted here - crypto PR problem is one thing (defocus on fc being crypto really - just a much cooler place to be than on say x?), but until today never realised how people may view it being coinbase heavy (incl. base). btw, if too based (not that theres anything wrong with that), it may be harder to onboard say the solana folk, and so on (just visit primal to see where i'm coming from - 100% btc)

makes total sense, thanks for sharing and being honest (as always). 

still optimistic some day we can get more scientists and creatives here if we lean into our decentralized values and uplift those communities, but recognize the very uphill battle and crypto PR problem we have to tackle.

I think it’s both, both farcaster founders are ex-coinbase, the ecosystem is very ‘base’ heavy and then on top of that it’s not doing favours for general crypto rep, it’s just not a good look in general unfortunately

no, Farcaster is not run on Base. The FIDs are created on Optimism.

We support transactions on Base, as well as Solana, Ethereum, Optimism, Unichain, Celo, Hyperliquid, etc. but Farcaster does not run on Base.

But isn’t it run on “base” ? 

And those fees don’t go to Farcaster?

i make the same comply/consent agreement when i put on a pair of nikes to go run 

imo what’s important is that we are all truthful about the connection and recognize it — all sides and steps of that thread — and get a fair chance at deciding for ourselves where our tolerance levels are and what the consequences should be.

i casted last night but deleted because i thought my take was hotter than necessary and belied the issue

but what i think can be called a thread of complicity is real here

coinbase -> coinbase wallet -> fc feed -> me

through that thread, by casting i am tacitly consenting and complicit with what coinbase does, as my casts, in part, serve to enrich their products. no?

Farcaster != Coinbase for sure

But! Farcaster can be the first taste of crypto for many, and Coinbase represents a dominant voice in the US crypto narrative. So there's an implicit tie for newcomers (imo)
