Easily 80% of cars are electric in Shanghai city. Even the buses, trucks and of course all the scooters. It makes the city so much more chill without the constant noise

Most if not all taxis are electric cars. China brand cars are very affordable and have improved in quality drastically the last few years. In terms of being civilized there’s still a way to go. Many people old and young hail from villages and are uneducated so there is still a large gap for being civilized.

I have been living in China for the past 7 years. The first time I came was in 2014. I’m an American so at first it was definitely a culture shock. Most the things he says is very true. There has been dramatic improvements in Chinese society but at the same time he is basing this on the larger main cities.

True. Was in Beijing and Shanghai last September.  Wonderful trip.  I was especially surprised by the no cash anywhere and by how nice and polite people were, great service.  Just like it was surprising how much service improved in Russia in the last few years.

Consulted Volkswagen in Beijing 10 years ago and 
they still had a person sitting in the middle of a bus stamping your ticket

China is a very different place, culturally. People need to visit before they can judge

I have a friend who has visited China many times and sent me a lot of funny pictures. It's this weird combination of advanced tech and theater of the absurd. I'll find them if anyone's interested.

Also, he should've mentioned that luxury and luxury electric cars are amazing in China. Nowhere else do $50k cars look like $500k cars in America.

Automation: I saw the start of this with Covid. First we had paper credentials to go shopping, etc. Then it was all converted to apps. You had to download an app for each city we traveled to in the summer of 2020 and it was how you accessed museums, etc, to make sure your Covid tests were negative.

I lived in Shanghai for 5 years, until Dec 2020. 
Electronic payments: True, some places stopped accepting cash at all. 
Air: True, major improvements over the 5 years I lived there. 
Civility: True, never had any issues with uncivilized behavior in Shanghai.

China is changing at the rapid speed, and the world is not ready to accept it
