I’ve also been thinking about quitting Spotify. But I don’t think switching to Apple, YouTube, or Tidal is the answer. I’d rather go back to buying the music I listen to and actually getting the files, so I can download them and play them on whatever music player I want https://www.hearingthings.co/why-we-quit-spotify/

Saw a YouTube video with the title that released this week that said “the rise / return of pirating” 😂😅

That's what happens when you shit on your artists/fans/users. Spotify and these other companies are not aligned with creators. They are extractors first imo

1000%. It’s unfortunate too, but honestly they keep it up for much longer & they’ll completely write themselves out of existence.

It’s the same playbook: offer something appealing, get everyone hooked, then do whatever you want. Look at Netflix, they keep raising prices because they know people have been conditioned to think there’s no better option. The same thing is happening with AI companies, from OpenAI to Cursor

Exactly, it’s the pernicious cycle of the way corporations work & having shareholders / board of directors & being legally required to consistently pursue more profits. The structure of business entities necessitates this kind of outcome sadly, and while other corporate structures exist, most startups have their ambitions set out towards this exact destination from inception.
