How much would you pay for Google Maps, if there were no alternatives? I’d prob do $1,000+ / month. And yet I get it for free and am hardly ever grateful for it. Lesson in there?

There would certainly be cheaper, less fully featured alternatives that would attract the vast majority of users But if the premium/paid features were good enough at the right price then it could work $1000/month is insanity. Maybe $20-$100

Sir you’re breaking my thought experiment by involving competitors The point is about the insane value of the thing itself Imagine doing Rome without it? (I couldn’t even do without it in nyc when I lived there)

true value is a separate thing from business model lots of things are valuable that are hard to monetize

Agree - I said “no alternatives” bc I think the interesting this is that we all get something really valuable for free I almost think we would love it and value it more if we paid a lot for it It’s a weird phenomenon of how things got a lot better in a way that’s pretty silent to us
