I find it very weird that Cursor has Agent and Chat mode but they're both basically the same except that Chat mode doesn't have access to edit files. I'd suspect Chat mode to just be designed to answer questions without even trying to edit files but it frequently gets stuck trying to edit files.

I’m heavily in on Claude Code these days. $100/month for effectively unlimited Sonnet 4 accesss, and then $20/month for Cursor because its tab-autocomplete is the industry leader. 

$120/month to 10x your output. A steal.

Is "manual" legacy mode? It can change things but it doesn't do it in an agent loop

Legacy mode. Precursor to agent. Suppose there’s an argument to be made it won’t burn your requests with tool calls if all you actually want to do is  discuss something.

Yeah seen that before with Gemini it will keep trying to use the tools and if you tell it not to sometimes the apply feature on the provided code doesn't work, super annoying

What model? Pretty sure anything that's not Claude has this issue 

fwiw I only use chat with cursor if I want agent mode like features I use Claude code cuz it just works better

yeah it’s very different now. very similar to cursor. just small ux differences.

I used vscode copilot a long time ago. I found cursors Ux significantly better but haven’t gone back to copilot so don’t know how much it has improved 

have you tried vscode copilot with its ask/edit/agent modes? i find it much better than cursor in ux. but it seems like i'm in a very small minority on this.

Believe Chat mode used to be called Ask mode even. Almost wonder if they changed the direction of the feature because how few people use it to just ask questions of the code base

windsurf has the same quirk but sometimes allows chat mode to edit your files. unexpected code changes is a feature and part of thrill!
