I don’t know how many Marxist/Dem Socialists we have on FC, but there’s a convo I want to have (rather in person but): It’s presented by Bernie/Zoran/etc that there needs to be zero billionaires because their wealth should be redistributed. I heard someone else say “what if everyone was a billionaire?” I don’t think either are going to happen exactly (no billionaires vs all billionaires), but the decision sets if you make one or the other as the GOAL is fascinating, and I’d love to have that convo with people of many different viewpoints!

What defines everyone? Everyone as in your social circle? Reproducing the problem Everyone as in the entire world? One billion becomes the same as 0 now Both outcomes : no change from current reality

What if technology brings down costs so low that having “a billion” really doesn’t do that much more that not having “a billion.” This is literal in a sense but not literal in another sense. It’s a question of whether Capitalism or Marxism brings us to the changed state. Open your mind to what’s possible!

Regardless of what brings us to that state - if everyone has “a billion” it is the same as what we have now with people saying they “have nothing”

I think people complain now because they get a paycheck and it’s gone before they know it, they can’t save, and they can’t afford to buy a house, etc. What if that all went away because cost of evening came down? I don’t think people would say they “have nothing”

I think this is a difficult situation because - How would the price of everything come down without there being a decrease in fiat in circulation? Likewise How would the price of everything stay the same while the circulation of fiat increases ?

I’ve heard that if we had a cheap, unlimited, abundant energy source, it wouldn’t be hard to

If there’s a world where everyone can produce their own energy, store it, use it and sell it And install that infra at a responsible / subsidized cost We would solve a lot of social issues that exist today

And people are working on it. And I don’t think they’d be able to fund that work in a non-capitalist system

Absolutely not, and this is why a more socialist system is probably best for the people than raw capitalism or raw communism

I don’t think socialists would fund it either. Seems like their solutions are price controlled grocery stores, not new ways to grow food

No, I think they’re for profit corporations, but you can always make it up on volume

Here’s my comment without typos Right but are we dependent on a centralized source of control over this ? Sounds like a few groups of people have decided this is important and are working or not Okay for profit is also fine in my eyes, and volume is also fine, i think the important thing is to look at the impact on the mass population

I view it as an extreme net positive. In some ways, the largest corporations are always in bed with governments, but that’s different than socialism in my mind

Oof this is a big take but yes I also agree But that’s also a narrative with today’s tech environments, what if there was a world in the future where truly government was intended to provide wellbeing resources and humanitarian resources such as hospitals, fire fighting and the such And then private companies could focus on life improvement functionality such as the distribution of wealth (and energy production is a really good measure / application here) That would be a fairly utopian vision for the future

So next is to keep this in mind as we set goals and decide who to put in power to either empower or disempower what is possible

Well yeah but this is also difficult because politics is really increasingly becoming a reality TV show that has very little relevance to real life other than rising fuel prices So next is to keep in mind just honoring the values and principles that help humanity in some way (this is also a huge convo, and subjective)
