why does produce taste 10x better everywhere outside the US? I can make the same dish — salad, fruit, whatever — but in Tunisia, Mexico, Malaysia… the flavor is just different. fresher, juicier, more alive. just tried a green fig for the first time too and it was so soft + sweet 🥹

That fig looks incredible. I’m amazed also by the diversity of fruits abroad. Some countries have dozens of avocado varieties for example and we just have Hass. The U.S. tends to optimize for industrial farming and transport over long distances (scale > flavor).

You should also try out the ones with the black shells, i was almost passing out eating so much of them freshly nearby Aegean villages of Turkey last year. 🥰
