Today would have been a good day to go to the hot springs (onsen) but I chose to go horseback riding. And instead it snowed. So the horses got to enjoy frolicking on the snowy plains and I got to watch them from the restaurant where I ate horse sashimi instead. Touché mfers. Touché.

Horse sashimi means Kumamoto, right? Even if it is Kyushu, it is unusual to have snow at this time of the year.

Yes! I’m shocked at the snow. The poor Sakura will be so confused.

Unlike last fall when you came to see the autumn leaves, you're planning to go north to see the cherry blossoms this time.

Exactly. For the spring, I like to start in the south and work my way north. This trip was a little wonky because I have to stop in Tokyo a few times for meetings. I also just put 2052 in my calendar for when the castle repairs will be done. I hope I get to see it in all of its glory.

Seriously. There was a sign that said 2037 and it was crossed out and now says 2052. Maybe the earthquake damage in 2016 was more extensive than first reported.

Last time I was there was before the earthquake. I've seen news footage of it, but it could be worse than that. Or maybe they plan to use this opportunity to make it more earthquake resistant.

I’m doing day tours because transit is so slow but it didn’t leave enough time for me to do the audio tour and all the exhibits are in Japanese and my translation app was too slow. Maybe next year I can spend a couple of days there and do the One Piece statue tour too!

So basically, I don’t know why so much time was added to the reconstruction but I hope it’s for good reasons to preserve as much as they can for future generations.
