Why can't I have multiple options for 2FA on Coinbase? Or 3FA? Ideally: 1FA: Email and password 2FA: Passkey 3FA: Push notification to mobile Yubikey as backup

i like how binance is handling it (probably the only thing to like about them lmao) 1FA: Email & Password 2FA: Either -> Yubikey -> Email Code && Authenticator Code so two weaker 2FA methods together have the same power as one stronger one.

HI Dan, It is supported. If you remove security from your setting now.. You will have passkey as 2fa & push notification to mobile as 3FA.. That said, acknowledge the UI is not as straight-forward. It is in the middle of a multi-phased change.. you will see an updated UI & more flexibility to config in a few wks

I would assume the reasoning would be due to the weakest link concept. If you have a YubiKey plus OTP, you may as well just use OTP since that's the weakest link. It's a simplification of the reality of risk assessing both auth controls, but it's close enough. 2x unique YubiKey should be supported though.

If you enroll your Google account as the identity provider, you can effectively get all of these features albeit via Google's auth rather than Coinbase directly. Definitely agree it should be native functionality, but if you're looking for a solution currently this would work.

FWIW I work on auth/login for another centralized exchange. I've been chatting for months about revamping our flow to be able to support use cases such as this. Bookmarking this and will ensure this is incorporated in our design. I'll follow up when we're close to launch (might be a bit, but we'll get there).

I’m right there with you, Dan. When did multi-factor authentication become “you get 2 and only 2 - that fulfills the definition of multi”?
