strong opinion, loosely held: AI-generated videos of humans (today) are a huge unlock AND still feel v uncompelling relative to the best creators sure it may work fine for product marketing videos rn and it’ll get magnitudes better but i’m skeptical it will ever match what makes most influencers so influential

I’m with @ted on this one. I can see it impacting marketing and other “one-use” cases, but I highly doubt it will (for a very long time at least) be as engaging for long-term engagements. It’s the ultimate distillation of “content”, and when the vector itself is part of that “content”, you get the same soulless slop that permeates most streaming services. And I’m deliberate about that comparison because I’m not saying the AIs will have a monopoly on slop-content, it’s just that they’ll be expanding the pipe so fast I suspect most people will simply tune it out. If the purpose is to create background noise, great, mission accomplished. But for works that other people will actually want to meaningfully engage with? That’s still gonna need human craft.
