The fundamental issue to solve for consumer crypto is consumer demand. Demand defined as a combination of both time spent and spend. Spend is downstream of time spent. Time spent is downstream of interesting.

Plausible to have just time spent with no direct spend, but then 1) why deal with current crypto consumer headwind 2) ultimately the spend is indirect from an advertiser.

What’s interesting? 1. Entertainment — something funny, some gossip, playing a game. A universal but relative for each person. 2. Learning — something new about a topic you care about 3. Making money — for a lot of people, opportunity to make money by reading / watching something is interesting

many people in crypto think this means Demand from people who already interact onchain and that space is just to small unless you are building around a speculation (memecoin) use case.

Well put. Sustainable demand in consumer crypto ultimately hinges on creating products interesting enough to capture time spend naturally follows

I feel like 90% of people in the DeFi space just wanna get a 5% capital efficiency improvements for large funds or smth. None of them seem to optimize for demand that much

Fundamental thing to solve for in any industry is demand, no? Assuming you mean satisfying the demand and not manufacturing demand that previously didn’t exist*

Make it interesting first. The rest follows like clockwork—on-chain or off.

I feel like Dan needs to reframe his “interesting content” mindset. At its core FC needs to serve a purpose. Feeling a part of a community… or feeling like my knowledge of crypto is growing seems more important to me than “oooh interesting content”.

Absolutely spot on. No amount of incentives or infra will fix a lack of genuine curiosity. If it’s not interesting, it won’t earn time. And without time, spend never follows. The real unlock? Make it fun, useful, or meaningful — ideally all three.
