i've been to the distillery a couple of years ago... islay is magical. the whole island smells like a freshly opened bottle of ardbeg (or laphroaig), almost everyone works at one of the distilleries and knows each other

Ardbeg, Laga and Laph are a few kms apart, use basically the same barley, water and yeast from same vendors and somehow have wildly different profiles of their whisky. That still amazes me. Sadly, I never went to Islay. Did a Glenfiddich tour back in 2008, before I knew anything about whisky...
