even when i test engagement farming tactics on this app (for science) they tend not to work as i would expect i truly don't understand their "algo" who's got the best insights on how it actually works? (we shouldn't trust Merkle to tell us how it works...for obvious reasons..)

What are your goals? Aka getting on the leaderboard is different from trying to get a trending cast which is different from getting views/impressions.

But which one do you want to optimize for? They require different strategies.

i'm making a statement that's anti-algorithm in general. fuck manipulating a content strategy to play into the hands of a wealthy central authority who stands only to profit of of you and all of your hard work. fuck that completely

I respect where this is coming from but feel like it's less about being anti-algorithm vs anti-a-specific-algorithm reality of social networks is that there is much more content than can be consumed so selecting the most interesting stuff is useful, it's just a matter of what that selection algo is good thing is the nature of farcaster means there will be natural competition and evolution here relative to existing networks which hopefully leads to better alignment between any particular user and their feed

in the broadest stroke we are optimizing for growing the network, we already have great user retention, so this looks like dialing up discovery on one level I think there was just some trouble getting this dialed in well but on another this fundamentally goes against what some users wantβ€”they may not care about Farcaster growing outside of crypto or it's existing userbase or what notβ€”neither side is "wrong" it's just a misalignment

this all adds up to me you guys are in a "damned if you do, damned if you don't"-shaped πŸ›Ά i'm here to try and inspire people to think about the theoretical (and practical, for that matter) implications of the protocol's design and accompanying incentives, and the implications around that. this is bigger than farcaster and about free speech and the future of social media, in general i know you know that, but many don't understand my actual aims.
