the people who are saying ai can basically replace software engineers: 1. people who aren’t software engineers 2. software engineers who have only worked on trivial problems 3. charlatans and attention-mongers it’s the self-driving car in about 2010.

but the speed of improvement seems crazy. if you don't get hands dirty now while things are tractable, you'll be at the mercy of charlatans forever

I do not think AI (at least not now) is going to be able to produce commercial grade software, However, could be a good gateway to get more comfortable with learning.. with the hope of getting into actually trying to be serious about being a software engineer. Very curious of how many people have been successful with building a basic frame for example by using AI

In 1995 or 6 I was a teenage IT drone and my boss bought software that let you write programs by dragging and dropping JavaBeans. She told me it would replace programmers in five years.

imo ai coding is an exponential function β€”Β can either help (^1.1) or hurt (^0.9) but it's entirely dependent on you, the prompter If you're a badass at writing code then you're probably going to be a badass at prompting it too if you're terrible at writing code then it's just going to slow you down more

Yeah tend to agree - self driving is and was just too multi modal. At least code is constrained to digital bits.
