my friend is demoralized from farcaster pro because he narrowly missed the "first 10k get an nft drop" window

idea: every time another 10k sells, the last 10k should get a custom NFT for that cohort.

also he has a strong argument that creating separate class citizens that no one can join into (OG NFT holders vs non-OG NFT holders) is long-term toxic to growth, and has some personal experiences supporting this thesis... trying to get him to post more details here but he's too disillusioned at the moment 🙃

I see the point but vast majority of people don't really care or find it fun

for instance we already did a Farcaster OG NFT drop for active users when we migrated FIDs onchain

Dan was / is highly intentional about avoiding have and have nots, both with the NFT (and even with Pro, it gives you features but is carefully designed to not be a pay to play scheme)

this is why there was a ton of communication around the fact this NFT conveys zero benefits and just a novelty gift, the equivalent to a bobble head you get for being the first 1k people to a baseball game

yea, my take is that it won't matter much in large part because of how quickly farcaster iterates, i expect more experiments like this to come sooner than later, and the meta shifting again in a few months, etc.

if this was a one-and-done forever thing that was pushed in peoples faces every day, it would be worse.

imo it was a successful growth hack which benefits Farcaster ($1.2m in one day is powerful), supported an artist, and gave early subscribers a "free" benefit in the sense that it conveys no special perks, it's just an image

yes there was some fomo but for what really—owning a jpeg that can be dumped for a .1 eth
