Learning about that El Salvador jail USA is sending people to and confused - is it viewed as too merciful just to kill these people? Not to mention executions would be the cost effective choice Imagine having to eat rice and beans with your hands for decades. My bet is the US pivots more toward prison labour to onshore manufacturing. Maybe that's the threat: Make shoes and shirts for pennies or go to El Salvador.

Oh thatโs interesting idea I wonder what the jobs are that can be done that way and how hard the training is relative to other prison jobs like wildfire fighting Prisoners are not making semis. But maybe Nikes

Actually itโs a bit more convoluted than that bc States of been either outlawing prison labor OR mandating minimum wages/labor protections, SO the GEO Group has made a huge pivot into investing intoโฆ drumroll pleaseโฆ MIGRANT DETENTION CENTERS! So I think as well as leasing or just straight up selling labor to El Salvador, we will be extorting, for slave wages, our already debilitated undocumented migrant workforceโฆ

Which states are you thinking? The largest ones (California and Texas) failed to pass meaningful reform last o saw, and isn't the minimum wage ridiculously low? Not the same as for non prisoners. Don't get me wrong, both are happening, I just think this will be a dark sick pivot for "onshoring" cheap labor.
