My kid decided to teach herself 6th grade math, english, and science this summer to ensure her continued dominance next year in school. She plans to use a $10 workbook/study guide. โIf I have time Iโll do 7th grade too.โ What a beast!

My work ethic varied from the lazy guy who showed up unprepared but knows the answers to taking on all AP/Honors classes. But eventually all gifted kids burn out, some more spectacularly than others. There just isnโt much to excel in after school ends unless you have capital or good connections.

I wish there was just a big open lab somewhere that we could all use the equipment and pursue academic interests in depth, instead of suddenly graduating and doing mindless tasks a well trained monkey could perform for years to gain irrelevant experience for the sake of a resume. โCool I got a degree and know how to design nuclear bombsโ โCool, supervise these people digging trenches for the next 18 months. You can move on once your knowledge is no longer current.โ
