hyperliquid is kind of like a dex. you can trade tokens on there but it is an order book. so more similar to the tradfi way of trading in the stock market. It has lots of liquidity and you can put leverage on your trades.
It's really easy to use, has lots of pro features, and is really speedy. don't have to worry about much wallet signatures and such.

noob question

when last i tried to use it (like may be 3-4 months back), I had to bridge to arbitrum (or optimism). is that still the case?

if not how do i use it.

yes, still the case. you have to have $USDC on arbitrum and then you can bridge that to hyperliquid. From there you can do all the trading with a click of a button, it handles the wallet for you under the hood.
