😱 Down syndrome is the leading cause of congenital intellectual disability in people. The culprit is an extra chromosome 21. Scientists have learned to precisely "trim" it using molecular scissors; the cell discards the excess, and the genes return to normal. So far, this works under laboratory conditions, but a step towards a cure has been taken. Victory over Down syndrome is a matter of the near future. I asked AI to restore the face of a person with Down syndrome as if he were healthy. Compare. Impressive?

Interesting research, though I wonder — should the goal always be to “fix” or “normalize” people? Or to better support the diverse ways we exist?

It would be great if we could remove gene defects. There are many genomic diseases. Some of them lead to death. I think that the dilemma of complete cure or support for patients with genetic diseases does not need to be solved yet. At the moment, adequate support for such patients is the most urgent point of any state.
