gather around class! let’s talk existentialism. before we proceed, i’m going to ask two simple questions. the questions go: ‘what is the meaning of life, and how should we live it?’

I don’t think life has any fixed meaning, we give it meaning ourselves. It becomes what we decide to do with it: the goals we set, the things we care about, the small wins we choose to celebrate. Life is what I make it. As for how we live life? For me, it’s simple , I live by faith. Faith that I’ll wake up tomorrow, that the food I eat won’t harm me, that the dreams and goals I’m chasing are actually possible. That faith is what keeps me going. It’s the reason I can make long-term plans and stay committed it. Without that belief that tomorrow is promised, I’d probably slack off and live aimlessly. So yeah, in the end, I live by faith. Most of the choices I’ve made in life have come from that place And above all, my faith in Christ is the biggest part of it. That’s really where I find my meaning , that’s my definition of purpose

This is an intriguing question. In my opinion, life is vague and it is whatever we make of it, which is exactly why there’s no universal agreement on what it means. I recently had a conversation with my friend on the concept of “freedom” and how much free will we think we possess in life. Thus why we say things like “you only live once” “you are in charge of your life” to justify our existence. When the actual sense of it is that we are all just floating in this loophole, desperately hoping it makes sense. So yes, life is vague and we should live in it with a lot of kindness towards ourselves, as we try our possible best to figure it out. It wasn’t built to be kind to us and our only duty is to make the most out of the pain it costs us.

IMO, life doesn't have a definitive meaning. Each person should go along with whatever it means to them. We shouldn't also dictate how people should live BUT I feel there are non negotiables like morality, love, kindness, etc which help to spread good. But as we know, people will do whatever they want. This just reminded me of Fyodor Dostoevsky.

the meaning of life is to humble you. it is to be lived by being grateful and helping others. (i believe that creating art is a form of gratitude)

given the stories that have been told around fires and information being passed down to one another over million years, only humans would ask this. And, I would guess the purpose of our life is connect as much as possible, deeply and dilute the chaos of our existence into something ordered and meaningful.
