cheaper housing would help solve a lot of problems: - more people would start families (more babies instead of cats/dogs) - less loneliness - improved mental/physical health - reduce homelessness etc etc all of these problems seem to be getting worse and they are all downstream of housing being expensive (even the case for really smart software engineers). not saying this is the only thing but definitely seems like a good one to focus on.

Agreed, although how you get cheaper housing isn’t clear. Without a clear leverage point, this might not be the angle to attack the problem at. Attempting to address income inequality might get at the downstream problems that you highlighted. Viable proposals that I’ve read about for addressing income inequality: more co-ops (employee owned businesses) and more unions as a countervailing force.
