Two connected things that I’ve been thinking about: 1. The idea from Douglas Holt (Cultural Strategy Group) that brands are cultural and that at some point something becomes undone in the dominant cultural narrative, and that presents an opportunity for change. 2. As the For Starters newsletter by Daniel Giacopelli quotes from the FT recently, this description captures the ascendant cultural spirit: "The current vibe is no drinking, no drugs, 9-9-6 [working 9am to 9pm, six days a week], lift heavy, run far, marry early, track sleep, eat steak and eggs." At some point, fairly soon, there will be an opportunity to challenge the dominance of the second point with a mindset and tools from the first one. You can almost start to see how the current vibe might be challenged and you can weigh that against whether what you see that as an opportunity or threat for your brand.

Chatted with barber about the shop’s business model. Owner charges rent per chair to each barber. Common that shops do very little marketing online marketing to attract and retain new customers. Wondering what a business model would look like that gives barbers some ownership (something like a co-op) and that invests in customer growth and retention. Ideally you would have a mechanism that pulls in barbers into this network (own part of this business) and another that retains customers and rewards loyalty (free haircut after a period of time). If you can nail both mechanisms then you can probably grow quickly, especially given that barber business seems to lack a winner take all spirit.

Income inequality has a direct impact on long-term health outcomes experienced by all classes, per The Inner Level: how more equal societies reduce stress, restore sanity and improve everyone’s well being. Greater income inequality creates negative externalities: elevated healthcare costs and lower life expectancy. One path to potentially fixing this proposed in The Inner Level is co-ops and corporate structures that allow for greater employee ownership. Very fascinated with the co-op structure. What’s the best example of the successful implementation of this structure in the crypto space? Maybe a specific DAO?
