Chatted with barber about the shopâs business model. Owner charges rent per chair to each barber. Common that shops do very little marketing online marketing to attract and retain new customers. Wondering what a business model would look like that gives barbers some ownership (something like a co-op) and that invests in customer growth and retention. Ideally you would have a mechanism that pulls in barbers into this network (own part of this business) and another that retains customers and rewards loyalty (free haircut after a period of time). If you can nail both mechanisms then you can probably grow quickly, especially given that barber business seems to lack a winner take all spirit.

Income inequality has a direct impact on long-term health outcomes experienced by all classes, per The Inner Level: how more equal societies reduce stress, restore sanity and improve everyoneâs well being. Greater income inequality creates negative externalities: elevated healthcare costs and lower life expectancy. One path to potentially fixing this proposed in The Inner Level is co-ops and corporate structures that allow for greater employee ownership. Very fascinated with the co-op structure. Whatâs the best example of the successful implementation of this structure in the crypto space? Maybe a specific DAO?

I read a bunch of Henrik Karlssonâs writing just before listening to this and it really enriched the conversation for me. Lots of noteworthy stuff from the pod and the writing but one that my mind keeps coming back to is how Henrik turned a $200k job offer to pursue his writing, and wrote in a room so cold that he couldnât feel his fingers so that he could iterate towards a reality thatâs an exceptionally good fit for him. Looking forward to checking out more of the Dialetic pod.
