Meta is spending a lot of money on individual contributors, but from my experience with the tech today.. they’ve basically are behind by months and heading to a year? They are losing on every front. None of their models are top 30 on LMArena text. And they want to throw more compute at the problem? Not getting it.

Warren has a great phrase for this: “Turnarounds rarely turn.”

Yeah, I think it’s also the fundamental nature of why turnarounds are generally so dramatic and why they are celebrated more than regular achievements

imho the datacenter / compute play is a win-win either way longterm because all the FOSS models will need to run on clouds in datacenters, and as it stands thats right now mostly someone else's business Google has a great lead with their TPU's having their custom hardware designed for AI, nvidia is top dog, so idk, maybe if he can secure a big chunk of gpu's he has a sure money printer on the current markets imho
