“funny but also hmm” story Prof Sandel came to my college, Virginia Military Institute, to give a school-wide symposium on moral dilemmas and had us cadets respond about trolley problem type stuff Except the utilitarianism runs so deep that cadets had no hesitation at all the entire talk “yea of course I kill the one guy instead of 5” responses every time

By the end the poor professor was clearly a bit depressed that he had inspired absolutely zero moments of pause or moral reflection in the VMI corps of cadets
