@plantsnft blew my mind when he came for a walk, got stung, and told me you don’t have them in USA. They’re part of the fabric of a well rounded UK childhood 😂
I don’t like to cut them down anymore because they’re great for butterflies.

I’ve never heard of Dock but I just asked ChatGPT and learned so much! Looks like it can grow in FL but not common. How interesting!

You can make soup and all sorts from it, but it’s a very old world ingredient we don’t use anymore. 
Do you have the plant called ‘Dock’, we have dock leaves which are a natural antidote to the sting and grow in the same environments.
They’re very important for biodiversity, and I wonder if it’s a native plant or brought over for medicinal uses by first settlers 🤔

We have them in the US but I didn’t know about it til I moved from south FL to Orlando and encountered them in my yard. Supposedly there’s lots medicinal uses but I can’t get past the thought of the sting, OUCH 😅 didn’t know it’s a host plant though, thanks for sharing!

There are several butterflies and moths which rely on it and caterpillars feed on it….. but they’re known for helping the insect and small mammals population which is in decline. 🦋

Is there anything for which they are the ONLY host plant?
