intellectual property laws are a double edged sword. they are crucial for protecting artists and creators, but make no sense when it comes to sharing knowledge, research papers, articles etc which are often stuck behind a paywall. i do wonder if blockchain could somehow be a solution to this, but mostly it’s about changing entrenched social/legal norms.

It protects majors more than small artists tbh If you don't have the money to sue someone across the world, your content get used and there's nothing you can do about it Blockchain can timestamp. AI could recognise very fast. But Original Artistsℒ️ hate those two techs so... Β―\_ (ツ) _/Β―

yes, very true :’-( i wonder if you abstract the tech behind it enough so that ppl wouldn’t have to know how it works, ppl would be more open?

I don't think so, I faced the furry crowd in 2021, they're very vocal community against tech. If they discover that something was "hidden" they get even more mad ^^" But the history behind the "Right Clic Save As" from VVD is very insightful. Pure cryptoart moment πŸ‘Œ https://www.vice.com/en/article/nft-collector-sells-peoples-fursonas-for-dollar100k-in-right-click-mindset-war/

so, yes, if you intentionally hide it, i can understand why people would get more mad ahaha. however, i think much of this discussion comes through what is the intention behind implementing these technologies? i'd like to *hope* that with mindful use of these technologies that genuinely make a world of a difference and are not for profit, people would be more accepting. but there will ofc always be the haters who don't even bother to do the minimum research on how blockchain and AI can be beneficial for society lol and re: the VVD NFT, yes--historic crypto art moment, also totally illegal and in this case the furries were totally correct loool

Were they? At the end of the day, the NFT is still only online heh. Totally legal then :p And how many of them accepted the 5k to mint their PFP ? ^^ If they minted their art and publicly linked this mint to their online persona before someone else did, timestamped provenance would have prevailed. Without even the need to sell it. Maybe one day every creation will be minted (specially gen AI) and if an arwork was used for inspiration, then a royalty will be automagically transferred to the author. Who knows? https://foundation.app/mint/eth/0x3B3ee1931Dc30C1957379FAc9aba94D1C48a5405/107380
