Are we casting better- or are we just better at the engagement games? 2025 brought the Warpcast Rewards Leaderboard to the ecosystem and it’s definitely changed the way people engage. DAU haven’t really changed. The numbers in January 2025 and May 2025 are pretty much the same, but there’s a drastic difference and how many orphaned casts are on the network. Orphaned casts are casts that get zero engagement: no likes, no replies, no recast. In January about 80% of cast on the network fit into this bucket, but today that number has changed dramatically and only 60% of the cast on the network are now orphaned. Has the leaderboard caused this behavioral shift? Have people learned to cast better and caught onto the Farcaster culture more quickly?

How is DAU calculated?

Looks like more than half the daily casts but the same amount of unique FIDs casting. So clearly same people but less casts from the active FIDs every day. Same amount of DAU but about 35% of the casts from 6 months ago.

Kinda crazy because the team is encouraging folks to cast more, but people are casting less. But maybe it’s quality >quantity? It’s hard to see from my little bubble. I mute so many keywords and hang out in channels so I have a lot of control over what I see. I’m not an average caster so I have no idea if others feeds are actually better.

I can’t say if it’s quality over quantity because the less casts doesn’t mean they are better but rather that’s all the 36k users has to say or wants to cast each day…about 4.8 casts daily avg per user now vs 14.69 in Dec. Overall interaction with casts / orphaned casts counts is interesting… Dec 18 = 105k (20%) out of 529k May 17 = 70k (40%) out of 175k So less casts interacted with but higher % due to less overall casts…prob due to less noise of extra casts / cast interaction fatigue.

That’s an excellent hypothesis. I also use the app differently now. I spend just as much time here, but I’m playing with mini apps and less on the feed because the feed annoys me in general.
