Are we casting better- or are we just better at the engagement games? 2025 brought the Warpcast Rewards Leaderboard to the ecosystem and it’s definitely changed the way people engage. DAU haven’t really changed. The numbers in January 2025 and May 2025 are pretty much the same, but there’s a drastic difference and how many orphaned casts are on the network. Orphaned casts are casts that get zero engagement: no likes, no replies, no recast. In January about 80% of cast on the network fit into this bucket, but today that number has changed dramatically and only 60% of the cast on the network are now orphaned. Has the leaderboard caused this behavioral shift? Have people learned to cast better and caught onto the Farcaster culture more quickly?

The downfall of Moxie definitely changed behavior on the network. Reply farming has almost completely stopped. Most spammers have left channels alone because there’s a little incentive to cast in them. The rewards algorithm only rewards top level cast and only 50 of them. The accounts the cast AI slop every hour on the hour have definitely retreated into the background. Since replying to a top level cast doesn’t actually get you any monetary incentive it seems like engagement has become more authentic over the past couple of months. Sometimes things feel a little quiet and I can definitely tell when the team is tweaking the algorithm, but I’d rather have authentic quality interactions than tons of replies from an inauthentic accounts.

I don't think that we are casting better, but that the spammy casters are casting less. I should have to make a script to see if orphan casts are mostly from 0-labels, but believe that FC use this (and more) to check if someone is spammy. Maybe they are trying to get rid of the 0-label by avoiding orphan casts. 🤔 Number of active spammy accounts isn't declining btw.

Actually mind blowing 80% of casts are sent into the void. I’m starting to use @tipn to auto reward casts I like and find valuable. While there are farmers no matter what, I’m curious how that may incentivize (or not)better content long term

I prefer the current interactions way more than the Moxie days, I can even removed the muting of specific key words these days. The DAU growth will always be a challenge, I use all my free invites but non of my invitees used it often as they aren't exactly web3 native

This was very thorough and informative. Thanks! I wish the new changes, the algorithm, be in favor of those who are trying hard to grow their account, not in a spammy way, of course. I personally suffered a lot.

I cast less, care less about the leaderboard, still getting rewards. Unsure I cast better tho. Started to promote @cyberbrokers since Drifters are on base, I'll see how it goes
