As a content creator, 80% of the time I work with agencies that brands hire to manage paid gigs or collaborations. And by default, I donβt trust agencies. Theyβre a business β their job is to make the brand happy, hit KPIs, and keep as much of the marketing budget in-house as possible. Which often means theyβre not exactly incentivized to advocate for the creator. Hereβs what that can look like: 1. Quoting my rate at 2β4x the actual amount to the client, then pocketing the difference π 2. Trying to sneak extra deliverables or usage rights into the contract we never discussed πͺ 3. Saying βthereβs no more budgetβ until I talk to the client directly and suddenly, there is π For people not in the creator space, this kind of stuff happens more than youβd think and unless you know what to look for, itβs easy to get underpaid or taken advantage of. 1/2

So over time, Iβve gotten more cautious. Now I: β’ Ask for the campaign brief before pricing anything (more work = more pay) β’ Clarify every single detail in writing β’ Read contracts like a hawk, especially for ownership / usage terms β’ Always, always ask about budget, and I negotiate politely but firmly (with Josh lol) Agencies can be great partners, but theyβre not always incentivized to advocate for the creator. So Iβve learned to advocate for myself.

I work in ops and content for a youtuber and we just go directly to brands now because the agency nonsense was so bad π
