…or it’s part of the firehose of falsehood. Some people will never learn it wasn’t cocaine, but even if they do, the job is already done. Using disinformation to crack a joke is either dangerously clueless or actually deliberate.

This is I think more of a "JD Vance & Couch" type case where you know it's not true but you make fun of it anyway because of the general dislike towards these lib types. Essentially doubling down on the stereotype.

Still, coming from such a respected journalist, it could be perceived seriously. Overall, I agree with you.
