I thought farcaster was striving towards this also?

I guess what I don't understand is:

- why build something so similar to farcaster?
- why splinter the community into smaller pieces?

I understand tipping is not sustainable, but idk how we got HERE.

Because Farcaster clearly rewards the wrong behaviors right now. The general idea was great though, so this project actually makes a lot of sense.

The core problem here is that there seem to be conflicting visions of what Farcaster is, or what it should be about.

If the goal is to create a social network (which is usually understood as ‘social media’ of some sort), many of the growth ideas are likely counterproductive, or indeed self-sabotaging. To anyone outside a narrow niche, these flaws are obvious.

But if the intent is to build a semi-social protocol centered on speculation and value extraction, then those very decisions might make perfect sense. The catch is that such a model has a rather hard ceiling on growth.

In practice, these two goals may be fundamentally at odds. (or at least they are up to a certain point)

I understand it’s also about attracting new users (that won’t find the current state of affairs compelling), and that seems like a rather moderate way to go about it!

Farcaster is still in its infancy.  I believe they will iterate and adjust, as they've done since day 1.

I understand that no one has quite figured out the proper way to incentivize people for good contributions but spreading those users out, doesn't seem to be the way.
