It really does feel like we’re witnessing a real consolidation of authoritarian power. Using the federal government to neuter the political power of universities, non-profits, and law firms is hugely significant in shutting down civil society. Unions aren’t going to want any smoke. It’s quite bleak.

What's really bleak is that a lot of people know better they're just too afraid to speak out. I've heard multiple times that Republicans in Congress don't speak out due to fear of their lives or political careers. I read just yesterday in the WSJ that CEOs aren't speaking out due to fear of backlash. Law firms and news corporations are folding to Trump because they know he'll corruptly get revenge if they don't, or their competitors will take advantage. It's all quite distressing how there actually exists a silent majority that is caving to Trump's bullying.
