It is both sad and hopeful that a modern day admonishment is to "believe in something" Sad because believing in something (anything) should be table stakes. To have that be the bar means we lack determinism in spades Hopeful because a low bar means more people can surpass it. The potentiality is ripe for many visions!

People need to read the Gita or Alchemist or something. Without belief, you aren’t a full person.

I was just thinking about this earlier today. Beliefs are often shaped subconsciously and it takes a lot of (worthwhile) effort to recognize them. Making the subconscious conscious is a big undertaking, but the results are profound.

to "believe in something" is both a lamentation of our lost sense of purpose and a beacon of hope for diverse perspectives and visions to emerge. Double edged sword
