Potassium is generally key to bulking storage vessels, roots, fruits, and bulbs. If you ever struggle with yield of these K is likely the culprit, assuming nitrogen is sufficient. Good mineral sources of potassium Potassium Sulfate (0-0-50) Sul-Po-Mag (0-0-22 w/ 11% Mg) Both are soluble to a degree. Split applications are best, especially if you get winter rains. Std rates 100# pot sul or 200# sul po mag per acre >> 2.5 # pot sul or 5# sul po mag per 1000 sq ft. 4oz pot sul or 8 oz sul po mag per 100 sq ft. 2x per growing season for the K lovers. Heavy compost users typically don’t run into K deficiency unless soils get dry and K locks up. Bonus is the sulfur will turn up pungency on the alliums. Cherry on top would be addressing boron to move the sugars … will share more on this if you have questions or interest.
