Dear Cryptoleft, I have a question for you:
From my experience and knowledge (in France & in the US), it seems to me that left wing aligned ppl are more often than not, anti-crypto. Oftentimes because it's seem as a way to scam people, and often associated with finance, which is traditionally despised by the left.
However, given the very nature of blockchains, being a decentralized and transparent alternative to our current information storage/communication system, which should 100% align with the leftwing standards, how come we're seeing so much dogmatism and lazyness to actually understand the technology, embrace it, and build leftwing aligned proposition? This really baffles me to be honest.
Is there a deeper reason as to why things are this way? Making crypto a partisan issue is really the worst outcome possible... 7 replies

I think the left being less capitalistic are not impressed by rapid rises in popularity amongst investors, and are very critical of the exits and crimes of many founders in the space. That said, when tools are useful for leftist outcomes, the left makes use of them.
The main areas where the left is interested in using blockchain today are:
- collective ownership, like platform cooperatives/DAOs
- community governance and digital democracy
- side-stepping and subverting the US financial hegemony
And in some cases, just, fast easy, cross-border, payments.
I’ve written a lot about the left’s potential and existing uses of crypto, as has @tbsocialist. I definitely recommend his podcast, blog, and book.
Another good example is @owocki who covered some really cool leftist blockchain potential on The Green Pill Podcast 0 reply
