freer gallery has always been my favorite with its older understated building and intimate collections compared to the pomp(s?) of the newer mega museums

then with younger kids i'd say air & space, with older kids the national portrait gallery and if you're desperate to pay money to visit a museum in DC the spy museum!

yes, it's also connected with the sackler with more ancient history related exhibits (mesopotamia, middle east, asia, etc.) and is also next to the castle as well!, great "bang" for your free buck!

holocaust museum is one of the newer ones so comes on a bit strong imo with what is already a very obviously heavy subject matter, hard to say it's one to "enjoy" but certainly an experience!

Took kids to air and space when they were young. Was considering maybe holocaust museum- have you been there?
