A lot crypto people seem to think being first to build something entitles you to collect rent from everyone else who comes later.

People are only willing to pay rent if it gives access to attention / distribution / potential revenue.

I don’t feel entitled to rent but it does hurt when someone copies you explicitly without credit or permission

Capitalism requires the moral structure of religion to work properly. That’s why there is so much crossover between atheism and socialism. Socialism is state provided laws of morality.

You are unfortunately correct but I do think there has to be some sort of sense of ethics beyond winning or the world will fall into socialism and states become the only winners

it's not so much ethics as broken incentives. fact is that if there's money to be made *someone* will copy. regulation can't fix this, but crypto can create incentive alignment (wrote about this recently https://paragraph.com/@abundance/permissionless-cooperation)
