thinking about the feed. specifically, design techniques to increase high-effort replies, which we can all agree is best form of engagement.

Reddit has downvoting. It impacts the display. HN has it as well, but it’s not available to users unless they reach a certain reputation score. Does fear of penalty increase quality or decrease engagement?

what if you as the poster had an optional "inbox-0" like interface that allows you to signal to waprcast that a reply is "higher" vs "lower" in value and then the feed re-orders replies based on your ranking can extend this tool to other readers too and weight based on page-rank reputation

Each post was in the feed as a card with a set of recommended replies/starters underneath Double tap or tap then swipe right to reply Make replying the default behavior

This is tough, IMHO there is no design pattern making people want to put more effort in posts. BUT analyzing high effort replies and their "creators" needs could give you insights. Just some example: markdown formating, hiding ugly raw links with thumbnails etc.

conversation is the most valuable currency maybe if both parties could somehow verify the interaction as meaningful...just a thought

Hmmm anything that make people think a little is already too much for the majority to interact, so, that´s one route to ´´paywall´´ a high-effort replies, smart kind of interactions?
